aromaSpa Benefits: Stress Relief

Let Off A Little Steam and Escape The Stress of Everyday Life With An aromaSpa ®

Current estimates show that between 70 and 80 percent of all visits to physicians are for stress-related disorders. 1 Chronic stress directly affects the immune system, and if not effectively dealt with, can seriously compromise your health. Studies show that excessive stress can: result in suppression of the immune system, which in turn creates increased susceptibility to illness - especially to immune related disorders and cancer. 2 affect metabolic rates increase heart rate and blood pressure increased susceptibility to colds and viral infections. 3
Everyone experiences stress on a daily basis. Even positive experiences--a new marriage, a job promotion, or financial gain-can be a stress-provoking event. "Although stress itself is not a disease, it can aggravate numerous conditions, including
allergies, arthritis, asthma, atherosclerosis, cancer, colitis, and ulcers, just to name a few.
If stress contributes to illness, then stress reduction should promote better health and healing. We believe that by combining the benefits of steam, hyperthermia and aromatherapy into one convenient, easy to use unit, we have created a powerful tool for stress reduction, health & well-being.
Fortunately, stress and its effects can be reduced through exercise, relaxation and use of the aromaSpa.
For stress, the aim naturally is to relax and unwind the mind and body and the aromaSpa is most effective.
The warmth of the steam in addition to the relaxing benefits of the essential oils, melts away muscle tension and helps quiet the mind, leaving the body feeling relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated.
The aromaSpa aromatic steam capsule has three main strategies for combating the effects of everyday stress, steam (moist heat), aromatherapy, and hyperthermia (artificial fever).

Steam (Moist Heat)

Physicians, chiropractors, physical therapist and massage therapist have long used moist heating packs to relieve muscle tension and spasm.
"The aromaSpa improves vascular flow, which, in turn, enhances oxygen, nutrient and lymph exchange at the cellular level, thus restoring a state of optimal well-being to the individual." Dr. Jerry Schindler, Professor of the Sports Health Science, Human Performance Lab at Life College - Marietta. Ga.

Aromatherapy

Researchers are beginning to understand why Hippocrates, father of medicine, prescribed a daily hot steam bath scented with essential oils to promote longevity. Recent studies have shown the powerful effects of essential oils on both mind and body, relieving stress, boosting the immune system and causing a sense of well-being.
A study conducted with the use of Lavender showed a change in brain wave patterns on EEG to alpha (relaxation) state.

Hyperthermia

"Give me the power to create a fever, and I shall cure any disease" Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine
A state of hyperthermia exists when body temperature rises above its normal state of 98.6º F.
There is evidence that hyperthermia (artificial fever) works as an immune system stimulant combating the immune suppressing effects of stress. It does this by increasing the number of white blood cells in the body.
Mayo Clinic researcher Dr. Wakim cite findings indicating that the number of white blood cells in blood increased by an average of 58% during artificially induced fever.
But hyperthermia benefits don't stop there. Hyperthermia also has many of the same effects as exercise, including mood elevation. A study conducted by H. I. Robins at the University of Wisconsin found that "mood states of cancer patients following whole-body hyperthermia show a significant improvement in depression" this was attributed to the increased B-endorphins, the same endorphins released with exercise.
