Installed at a soft-water loop to avoid the cold side of the kitchen sink, wet bar, ice maker/refrigerator connection and hose bibs, the softener strictly softens the water through a process of ionic exchange.

There are advantages to softened water; however, the tradeoffs and disadvantages are many. Door-to-door salesmen have provided the general public and even the contractors with a skewed, and in most cases, an incorrect portrayal of what softened water is all about.
